Our Trauma-Informed Approach
At Connections Counseling, every therapy we offer — from ART to DBT to Internal Family Systems — is delivered through a trauma-informed lens. This means we recognize that many of the struggles people bring into therapy, whether it's anxiety, relationship conflict, or difficulty regulating emotions, often have roots in past experiences of trauma, even when trauma isn't the reason someone initially reaches out.
Being trauma-informed means we:
- Prioritize physical and emotional safety in every session
- Move at your pace, never pushing you to share or process more than you're ready for
- Recognize the signs and impact of trauma, even when it isn't the stated reason for seeking therapy
- Build trust and transparency into the therapeutic relationship
- Emphasize your strengths and choices, helping you reclaim a sense of control
- Collaborate with you rather than direct you — you are the expert on your own experience
Whether you're working with us on trauma directly or exploring a different concern entirely, this approach shapes how we show up with every client, in every modality we offer.
